After a hard-fought second day of competition at the State Tournament, the Matadors came away with a 3rd Place finish. In the quarterfinals, Sandia was able to upset the 3rd seeded Eldorado Eagles in 3 sets. Then in the semifinals, the Matadors were on the cusp of upsetting 2nd seeded Volcano Vista, but a few controversial calls ended up giving the Hawks a 2-point victory in the final set. In the 3rd place match, the Matadors once again came back from an early deficit and were able to defeat the West Mesa Mustangs to secure the green trophy.
